The ribbon cutting for Salina School Green School Yard project was A+! Today we cut the ribbon on more green schoolyard space; nature play, outdoor learning, trees, and room for kids to just be kids in a neighborhood that has lived next to industry for generations.
The real warriors are the ones who kept showing up long before the cameras did led by principals Sue Stanley and Eman Ali-Ahmed, who never stopped asking “what if our kids had this?”
Dr. Jill Chochol and the Green Schoolyards team who turned a vision into dirt, rain gardens, logs, and prairie.
Teachers who take class outside.
Students who weed the gardens, color the leaves, plant trees, and remind the rest of us why this work is worth it.
Parents and neighbors who fundraised, volunteered, and refused to accept that south Dearborn kids should have less green than anyone else. Special thanks to the City of Dearborn Government and sponsors for their support as well as our district Dearborn Public Schools for getting the grants in order to see this as a reality!
This isn’t just a playground. It’s cleaner air, stormwater that stays put, a place to learn with your hands in the soil, and a message that our children deserve beauty and play right outside their classroom door. Salina continues to shine and lead the way! Onward to our next phase: #TheGreenWall! Kudos to the teachers and students who led us on a tour!
