Fighting for Academic Recovery

Accelerated learning, faster paths out of EL status

Championed academic recovery after the COVID-19 pandemic, helping drive measurable improvements in student proficiency through accelerated learning initiatives and supporting a faster exit from English Learner (EL) status for our students.

Advocated at the state level for increased education funding, while supporting merit increases for teachers and fighting for more reasonable timelines during contract negotiations.

Steady Leadership Through Transition

Board resignations, superintendent departure, HFC presidential change

Provided steady leadership during one of the most challenging periods in district history — steering the Board through multiple school board resignations, the departure of the Superintendent to become Michigan's State Superintendent, and the transition of Henry Ford College's President to Western Michigan University.

19 EPA-funded buses secured

Aggressively advocated for grants to support Dearborn Public Schools, securing 19 environmentally friendly buses through the EPA — reducing emissions and modernizing the district's transportation fleet for our students and community.

Agent of Change

Led the superiendent search

As Board President in late 2025, Adel Mozip helped launch the national search after Glenn Maleyko left for the state superintendent role. He outlined the transparent process involving community input and a search firm. On May 4, 2026, the board selected Mike Esseily by a 5-2 vote. Mozip voted in dissent, seeking a fresh perspective and real change. He respects and supports the majority decision. Trustee Mozip then negotiated Esseily’s contract on the board's behalf, which was approved unanimously on June 22. Esseily started July 1, 2026.

For Henry Ford College

  • Increase enrollment while maintaining rigorous, high-quality education, and expand bachelor's degree programs
  • Strengthen the college's partnerships throughout the broader community
  • Expand the college district to neighboring communities — growing the tax base and delivering tax relief for Dearborn residents
